The spear-thrower is a tool that uses leverage to achieve greater velocity in throwing light spears or darts, and includes a bearing surface which allows the user to temporarily store energy during the throw. The spear-thrower was invented by Jondalar in The Valley of Horses.
It resembles the Atlatl device, which was invented 30,000 years ago in the Upper Paleolithic.[1]
